How can China overcome the great power rivalry in the field of low-orbit satellite communications?
The low-orbit satellite communication network consists of two architectures, namely "Sky network" and "Star Network". Compared with ground communication, it has advantages such as wide coverage, low cost and fast deployment. Compared with the traditional high-orbit satellite communication, it has unique features in overall layout, transmission mode, coverage characteristics and topology structure, and has great potential in global communication and Internet access, 5G, Internet of Things and space industry driving, as well as space military capability application. It is not only the "arena" of commercial space technology, but also the new "lever" of space and military strategy game of major powers, which has triggered more space countries and enterprises to actively participate in the layout in this field and try to seize the opportunity. At present, the competition among space countries in the field of low-orbit satellite communication network is fierce, showing a competitive situation of "the United States leading and other space countries accelerating to follow". The deeper motivation lies in grabbing frequent-orbit resources, competing for first-mover advantage and focusing on national security considerations. In order to cope with and participate in the current fierce international competition, China can make peaceful development and use of low-orbit space and strive to provide first-class Chinese products and services from four aspects, namely, the distribution of middle and low orbit frequency spectrum resources, the development of low-cost space technology, the optimization of commercial space development mode and the strengthening of multi-party cooperation in the international community.
